About this event

The new Pharmacy First service is due to be launched on 31st January 2024 (subject to the required IT systems being in place) as an Advanced Service.

To support you, CPGM and the GM Healthcare Academy have organised this clinical training.

The session will provide a detailed understanding of the new NHS Pharmacy First service, its objectives, and the role of community pharmacies.

It will also cover:

Clinical Screening of Patients
Providing the service requires pharmacists to engage with the patient, and offer advice
and NHS-funded treatment via Patient-Group Directions (PGDs)

Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Management of the seven clinical pathways:

  • Sinusitis
  • Sore throat
  • Earache
  • Infected insect bites
  • Impetigo
  • Shingles
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women

The training will include Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) examinations and all equipment needed for the training will be provided on the day.

This includes an otoscope demonstration. If you do have access to an otoscope then you may bring it with you, as this could give you more opportunity for hands-on practice.

This training is split into two sessions:

  1. Tuesday 23rd January 2024: Evening Session Part 1, 19:00 – 21:00
  2. Tuesday 30th January 2024: Evening Session Part 2, 19:00 – 21:00

You must attend both evenings.

Failure to attend both evenings will result in you being charged the non-attendance fee, as per our cancellation policy, and you will not receive your certification.

This training is open to Greater Manchester Pharmacists only.

The registration information that you provide will be checked and we reserve the right to cancel any tickets that do not include a Greater Manchester ODS Code.

If you are a locum please provide the ODS code of the main pharmacy that you work in.
